THE CENTER'S MISSION

In books and exhibits, The North Florida Center for Documentary Studies explores, documents, and celebrates both human culture and the natural world of North Florida. Our exhibit, "The Healing Ground" is on permanent display at the White Springs, Florida, Community Center.

Beginning with her 1960 interviews with black and white descendants of Florida pioneers, Sudye Cauthen, who founded NFCDS in 1997, has dedicated herself to documenting this area, particularly its people's connections to the land. Her first book, SOUTHERN COMFORTS: Rooted in a Florida Place, tells the story of her explorations over a thirty-year period. To see what's next, see Works-in-Progress.
